From a business perspective, the current Cornonavirus Convid 19 pandemic and consequent precautions undertaken, has had an impact. Supply of frames and display products had been severely curtailed, due to lack of staff to manufacture, and suppliers no longer able to supply materials, as not essential business activity. However, as lockdown restrictions are relaxed business conditions are somewhat improving. With the exception of personalised gift products, it is still advised that customers contact us first by eMail or telephone to check the latest position prior to placing orders. As always stay safe and take care.

The opportunity was taken during the lock down period to build a brand new website for www.framesonlineuk.com. This is a modern responsive design site, that automatically adapts to the equipment being used, whether desktop computer, laptop, smartphone, or tablet. Our new website combines our most popular personalised gifts, ready made picture frames, and display products in one place. A host of features are offered, including account facilities, ability to view personalised design choices selected, and various user friendly search options. New products will be added weekly. It is anticipated this new site will be up and running with effect from 1st July 2020.

This is clearly difficult time. Best wishes, and stay safe. From a business perspective, the current Cornonavirus Convid 19 pandemic and consequent precautions undertaken, has an impact. Our photography business involving contact activities (weddings, events etc.) has temporarily ceased. Bulk supply of frames and display products is severely curtailed, due to lack of staff to manufacture, and suppliers no longer able to supply materials, as not essential business activity. Personalised gift products, continue to be available, albeit limited to reducing availability of stock such as frames. Despatch of products is limited to 1 or 2 slots per week, and this may be further curtailed if UK policy changes further. Prices for all products, are frozen. There will be no price increases for any products until this crisis passes, as it will. Take care.

Following a referendum in 2016 the United Kingdom population voted to leave the European Union (EU). Following several extensions of notice, the UK is now due to leave the EU on 31st October 2019. Datalite UK Ltd has been preparing for this event, by reviewing business practices, and ensuring procedures are in place for exporting to the EU (including Ireland). Largely by following similar routines to our existing non EU customers. Also preparations include being allocated a Economic Operator Registered and Identification (EORI) number issued to our business by HMRC, which is now available when required. Despite numerous 'scare' stories, it is anticipated that the transition will be seamless, and of minimal (if any) impact to our existing EU customers.

In accordance with the European Union Directive on General Data Protection Policy (GDPR), Datalite UK Ltd's Privacy Policy has been updated. This emphasises that under this EU directive, mailings of special offers etc. from 25th May 2018 will only be by an opt-in consent from customers. Datalite UK Ltd apologises for any convenience caused, due to necessary compliance. Also included are details of further customer rights. The UK is leaving the EU, and this policy may well change as a result in the future, and in the light of experience.

Despite the United Kingdom leaving the European Union, a recent EU directive will be coming into effect with 25th May 2018 concerning data protection. Datalite UK Ltd has always taken data protection seriously, with no records of any breach since inception back in the year 2000. The new layers of bureaucracy will not be welcome for many UK organisations, and will do nothing to stop the biggest source of data misused, being that originating from outside the UK. Nevertheless we are taking steps to fully comply with GDPR. With immediate effect mailing lists on check-out will be solely on a positive 'Opt-In' basis. Furthermore the occasional mailshots of special offers for existing customers (around once a month) will cease, also with immediate effect. Details of GDPR compliance will be detailed on our Privacy Policy shortly.

Regret that due to crazy European Union inspired new VAT regulations effective from January 2015 that Datalite UK Ltd trading as 'DAYBORN' is no longer able to offer the 'Advance Copy' option to our customers. This is because this product is classified as a digital product, and complicated and virtually impossible (if not actually impossible) to implement EU VAT rules come into force. This bureaucractic nightmare would mean multi EU country VAT returns, privacy issues (storing customer details contrary to data protection acts), impossible customer location verification etc. It is with regret that it is simpler and more profitable simply to discontinue offering the Advance Copy product.
A note has been posted on our 'Options' page:- Sorry, but our advance copy service as a digital product falls under complex and extremely bureaucratic new European Union VAT laws introduced January 2015. As a result it is no longer possible to offer this product to EU (Non UK customers). Furthermore though we are already UK VAT registered, due to EU discrimination laws, we are additionally unable to offer this product to UK, or even to Outside EU customers.

On Christmas Eve we heard the sad news that the courier company CityLink had gone into administration. We at Datalite UK Ltd are a customer of CityLink and will likely need to make alternative courier arrangements. However, our thoughts are primarily with the staff of CityLink and the devastation this news would have brought to them and their families, particularly poignant as the news was announced on Christmas Eve. CityLink invariably provided us with a good service, and we wish all the best for the Isle of Wight depot staff and drivers.
Regarding our customers, luckily we did not make any CityLink despatches on Christmas Eve - this has always been our company's policy to avoid packages being stored in depot for an extended period over the Christmas holiday. Therefore none of our customers parcels should be caught in limbo. Alternative couriers will be sought and used for order placed during the Christmas period.

However, the page loading speed when changing pages has been increased by ensuring that elements common to pages (buttons, panels, graphics etc.) are only loaded once. This is an important notice to customers, to notify that the business's bank account provided by Santander UK PLC is no longer providing the company access to online banking. This means that the company cannot access its own sales receipts, view bank transfers from customers, or pay payments online. The directors of the company have made their personal bank account funds available to pay bills, whilst the company is in the process of urgently changing its bank.
This appalling position is for no other reason than Santander demands a mobile phone number to be linked to the business account. As this policy breaches security policies to protect the business and its customers, and in any case the company is located in a mobile dead zone, we have declined this unreasonable request. The company has been an excellent and lucrative customer to Santander; and is astounded by the poor service emanating from Santander. This will be the subject of a forthcoming business article and press release.

The military personnel were as efficient as always (a little bias, the MD is ex Royal Navy), the production crew were great with special thanks to Carol Hanlon, the other donating company's personnel were a friendly bunch, and the lifeboat crew were brilliant. Indeed much of the diktats emanating from the EU appear purposefully designed to adversely damage business competitiveness.

Cookies are commonly used throughout websites, but this law in effect will mean that many EU websites will be proliferated by annoying nag 'opt in' boxes. It is noted that despite the threat of a half million Euros fine, the EU Commision website currently is non-compliant with its own law. Datalite UK Ltd only uses cookies for its shopping cart (an essential use) and as part of Google Analytics. Datalite UK Ltd has reluctantly decided to discontinue its extensive advertising as a Powerseller on eBay. This decision is as a direct result of recent eBay Policy changes. In particular eBay has significantly raised its Final Value Fee which has not been offset by reduced auction fees, changes in policy have created an apparent hostile sellers environment; and the final straw was eBay's change to the feedback system which effectively censors honest feedback from sellers.
Datalite UK Ltd believes its customers can be best served by concentrating on web and mail order outlets which for the bulk of sales, without the increasing bureaucracy of eBay which sadly had become an unacceptable burden.

Datalite UK Ltd is currently reviewing its relationship with the online auction company eBay. This has been prompted by recent price hikes, apparent increasing eBay bureacracy, a perceived lack of eBay seller support, and perhaps the last straw: the introduction of a feedback system where a buyer can say whatever negative comments they like with the seller only able to leave positive feedback. eBay forms only a small proportion of Datalite UK Ltd's sales, and has been deliberately reduced. A decision will be made shortly on whether or not to continue offering Datalite frame and personalised gift products on eBay.
